Over the next few weeks, I will be re blogging my most popular blogs from the past year. I will be back blogging about business news and concepts in September. If you have any suggestions for blogs, feel free to contact me.
I know that you have heard it before or you might of used it yourself…..I don’t have time! There isn’t enough time to get that report done, to get some prep work done before a meeting or to cook a healthy dinner.
We all have a number of commitments and goals that we want to keep. With our busy lifestyles, something seems to almost always fall to the side because we don’t have time to get it done.
Have you ever thought why you didn’t get that report done? Have you actually really thought about it instead of going to the first thing of not having enough time? Being a Lean Six Sigma practitioner, I used the 5 Whys tool to get to the root cause of me not having enough time.
In the end, I did have the time to get it done; it just wasn’t a priority for me. Looking around at different people, I noticed that I wasn’t the only person that does this.
If you’re being told that your staff doesn’t have the time, they are actually telling you that it wasn’t a priority for them to complete. A 5 Whys exercise can be completed at this point to get to the root cause of the situation. Are their priorities not aligned with yours? Is it considered to be something boring to do? Did the employee have higher priority duties to fulfill that you didn’t know about?
Time is a sacred resource and we can’t get any back but that is no reason for not getting your work done. Just Do It! Just Re-Prioritize It!
Have an awesome day!
